Santino Fontana & More Join Joanna Gleason in Sons of the Prophet Off-Broadway
Broadway vet Santino Fontana will be among the complete cast in Roundabout Theater Company's forthcoming off-Broadway premiere of Stephen Karam's Sons of the Prophet, starring previously announced Tony winner Joanna Gleason. The play begins performances September 30 ahead of an October 20 opening night at the Laura Pels Theatre. Peter Dubois will direct the limited engagement, which runs through December 23.
In addition to Gleason and Fontana, the cast will include Yusef Bulos, Jonathan Louis Dent, Lizbeth Mackay, Dee Nelson, Chris Perfetti and Charles Socarides.
Sons of the Prophet follows a Lebanese family in Pennsylvania who never loses their sense of humor as they struggle with crazy bosses, medical mysteries and other issues. With unexplained chronic pain and the fate of his reeling family on his shoulders, Joseph Douaihy (Fontana) finds his health, sanity and insurance premium on the line. In an age when modern medicine has a cure for just about everything, Sons of the Prophet takes a look at how we cope with wounds that just won't heal.
Fontana’s Broadway credits include The Importance of Being Earnest, Sunday in the Park With George, Brighton Beach Memoirs and Billy Elliot. Bulus has been seen on Broadway in The Rabbi, Fiddler on the Roof, Indians and Captain Brassbound's Conversion. Dent’s regional credits include Henry IV Parts 1 & 2 and The Good Negro. Mackay has appeared on Broadway in All My Sons, Doubt, The Price, Abe Lincoln In Illinois, The Heiress, Death and the Maiden and Crimes of the Heart.
Nelson appeared in the world premiere of Sons of the Prophet in Boston; her film credits include State and Main and Moonlight Mile. Perfetti has performed regionally with the GEVA Theatre Center and the Hangar Theatre, and Socarides has been seen on the New York stage in The Marriage of Bette and Boo, The Rise and Fall of Annie Hall, Indian Blood, Awake and Sing! and Old Money.
The design team for Sons of the Prophet includes Anna Louizos (sets), Bobby Frederick Tilley, II (costumes), Japhy Weideman (lights) and M.L. Dogg (sound).
